how much  trouble would it be to change a 30-30  marlin 336 to 38-55 or 375win. would just changing the barrel do it

There has been a guy on Gunbroker selling a converted levergun like this for many many months. (Winchester or Marlin)  Maybe you could just buy that one and not worry about the trouble of having it done.  ???  As I recall it was fairly cheap.

I'm not 100% sure but yeah I think a barrel change or rebore/rechamber should be all that is required. It should feed just fine. Still the cost isn't gonna be a whole lot less than a rifle if you can locate one so chambered.

I checked around GunBroker yesterday and I couldn't find that rifle.  It was either a Winchester or a Marlin that was originally a 30-30 but rechambered to 38-55.  The think had been posted for many months, if not a year.  He was asking $350 for it.  I guess it's gone now or just in limbo waiting to be re-issued on the auction.  ???

The guy on Gunbroker is the brother to the gunsmith who does the work. The operation is generally refered to as "JES re-boring" by a lot of guys on the Marlinowners forum. I have a 336T that was re-bored by JES and I am very happy with it. You can specify bore diameter so that you get a rifle that has a larger bore like the early 38/55 had or get it bored .375 where you can use modern jacketed bullets that were designed for the 375 Winchester. Jes does good work. If you want a 30/30 turned into a 375 or 38/55 I heartily reccomend his work.

I found an M375 local for $725 and Cabelas in N.D. has one for about the same. :(  Way over priced from what I see here.  I'm just gonna pretend my 38-55 CB is one till I find one priced better.  Or wait till I get a new one with the lams and 18 1/2" barrel and send to JES.  DP

I am sorry to show my egnorance but i have looked on 2 ballistics
charts and havn't found 375 win. how does it compare to the 30-30
my brother has a 94 big bore trapper in 375, but don't remember it
ever being out of the house.

Hornady manual lists the 220 gr at 2300 fps using A 1680 and 2200 with RL 7 and H 4198.  Barnes doesn't list the 375, but does the 38-55 with their 255 gr at 1745 fps.  That would be at a lower pressure than the 375 Win.  Speer lists their 235 gr Semi spitzer (not to be loaded in tube mags), at 2067 with RL 7.  Hodgdon has the top speed with the 200 gr Sierra at 2480 fps with H 4198 and the 220 gr Hornady at 2236 with H322 and about the same speed with H4198.  DP
