Greetings all

I recently purchased a Savage Model III chambered for a 30-06 with a non-removable magazine.

Is it possible to modify this to a removable magazine? If so, where (book, website, etc.) can one find the directions for doing so?

Now, before anyone says so - you are right, if I wanted a rifle with a clip, then I should have purchased a rifle with a clip. Trading off and using the proceeds to purchase a rifle that I want is not feasible as it is a left-hand bolt and they are not really big sellers around these parts.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have seen conversions for the Remington 700 but not for a Savage - there may be one out there but not that I have seen.

Savage made a version of the 110 series rifle with a detachable magazine. A call to Savage might locate the needed parts(triggerguard, magazine,etc.) and while it is possible it will probably require a bit of inletting. I've also seen these pieces on EBay and AuctionArms..

Don't forget that Savages with DBM's have a hole in the side of the stock, as well as the extra parts inside, that act as the magazine release.

Hi Chris..
I am in the process of doing the same thing also....but with a short action....I have 2 Savage 110's that are clip fed lefties....both were 06's and I had one customized and made into 280 Rem....I just won an aution on Ebay that has all the parts needed to change the long action gun top clip...also there are stock on there freqently that are for the clip rifles.....just bought one for my short action...
I will try and keep you all posted as mine progresses....am going to rebarrel to either 260 or 7mm-08 when done....and Chris one thing you need to watch is Since Savage sold out due to financial problems, some of the things arent going to fit....I just bought a mod 12 in 223 and the action is shorter than the older short ones...you shouldnt have that problem with the long action...
another note is that they wont work on anything that was made before they took over, so you need to know the serial number on your rifle...there are a few places that bought up most of the old parts for the old guns and am getting ready to order my parts from one of them tomorrow....will also try and keep posted how they are to deal with....if you call Savage 413-568-7001 and give them the serial number they will tell you if you can buy parts from them....if you can, everything is cheaper than what I was quoted, so good luck....and it is hard to come up with a lefty here also, but if you go to sell them, no one wants them, so there is my problem......hahahaha....
