Question about shipping receivers
« on: February 22, 2010, 01:39:15 PM »
This may be an old question, but I'll ask it anyway. I have a cousin GA that has some H&R parts, (223 & 20 ga barrels, stock parts & 2 receivers) that he's giving me. My question concerns the receivers, they are comepletely taken apart (no guts). Can these be shipped w/o a FFL if the parts & receivers are shipped separtly?

The receivers must be shipped to an FFL if transfering them across state lines, doesn't matter if the internal parts are included or not.

The ATF calls the receiver the gun on these no matter what.  So no it has to go through an FFL to ship.  Same as a stripped AR receiver as long as it is the receiver with the SN on it it is a gun.

I had a feeling that you couldn"t ship receivers w/o a FFL, stripped or not, but good ol' Cousin Sam is all knowing .......at least in his own mind. Thanks Quick.

The only exception is shipping the gun back to the factory for repair, it can go from you to them and back again with no FFL involved.  44 Man

Didn't I once read here about shipping guns to yourself in another state.
I think there was even something about having someone else receive them in yore name.
Not saying this will work for this case,  but!

You can ship it to yourself. For hunting trips, etc. Probably real popular now that airlines have gone crazy with bag check fees.
