.35 Contender ammo choices
« on: February 02, 2010, 03:48:21 PM »
I recently traded for a Contender in .35 Rem and was wondering about ammo choices. They seem to be hard to find locally and since I don't handload yet what seems to be the favorite for whitetail deer. Has anyone used the Hornady Leverevolution in theirs? I talked to a few locals and it seems 180 gr bullets are what most recommend. Any help apprciated.
looks like I need to get into reloading as I also have a .44 and a .223.

I have a 14" in .35 Remington that loves the Leverevolution ammo.  I use iron sights on this barrel and can get 2-2 1/2" groups at 50 yards with the Leverevolution ammo.  Mine barrel really likes my hand loads with the 200 grain cast performance bullet.

Mine is a super 16, and I shoot the Hornady leverrevolution 200gr ammo.  It works fine..I believe the 180 gr is not a good choice, light bullet for a .35 cal, low sectional density as I understand it.   The Rem 200 gr Core Lokt also shot well from this barrell, and I took a sheep or two at fairly close range with it.  The Hornady round has been my favorite for feral hogs.   None of my hunting is what i would consider long range.

Thanks for the replies. I will pick up a box of Hornady's and see what they can do. Most of my shots will be less than 100 yards but you never know when a long shot might present itself.. My barrel is the super 14 and I have a Burris 3x on top. Looks like I have a lot of practicing to do.
