My experience is that, for open sights on the NEF 30-30, any commercial round will shoot more accurately than I can see. The inexpensive flat or round nose cartridges, 150 or 170, retain enough energy to put down a deer out to 150 yards, which was well beyond precision of open sights, i.e, the factory Williams front sight appears bigger than the deer's chest.
But it is fun to shoot. This summer I hand-loaded a few hundred 30-30's with Mangus 115 gr cast lead bullets with 1.6cc scoop of IMR SR-4759 powder and whatever primer, at a cost of about 12 cents and one minute of my time each, using my $20 Lee Classic Loader Kit. With that light bullet and a muzzle velocity of 1500-1800 fps (or was it fpm), there is not a lot of kick. Sighted in at 25 yds, 10" of drop at 100 yards, but is was fun hearing the steel plate ring when I hit. Save your brass.
