Yea Mate ! thats a home made fibreglass Roaring tube . During the red deer ROAR or RUT as you fellars call it  you can really get the stags going nuts , and they will often come charging in to challenge you anlers waving all around & front legs stompin the ground. Our camp is up high in the subalpine and just round the back theres a 200foot rock drop off you stand on at nite time and imitate the stags . Me and huntin mate have got 5 boys between us, and its magic to see the young fellars on there first  roar hunt , stur up the stags from this spot. Its not unusual to hear up to 6 to 8 stags roaring back. Smile on their face priceless .

Welcome aboard, I was under the impression that it was getting hard to own firearms over there.  Has things lightened up any?  Maybe it is just the handguns getting hard to have.  I had a good mate over there who died recently so I'm out of touch. 8)

In New Zealand it would be fair to say its controlled ownership of firearms , but still easy enough if you wish to use them lawfully. :)
 Our licencing is a laddered system . hunting style rifles & shotguns in  single/bolt/ lever/ semi up to 7 rounds & pumps are covered in this entry level you may own as many as you like. Most common owners licence . Other separate classes include Handguns / Military style semis / collectors ETC and you have to be 16 years or older to hold a licence and vetted by the police . Selfdefence is not grounds for legal ownership.
Sorry about ya mate ! big distance is never easy to stay in close touch.
 Now Australia that's whole other story. Mate its pretty hard to even own a rubber sling shot over there :'(.

Thanks for the update, he was a minister in Australia.  On the second grab they got his licenced .45 auto and he would not have been able to get another licence for 5 years.  Prostrate cancer got him, make sure you gert checked periododically.  Evan here in the US they say 1 out of three have prostrate problems. 8)  Gidday

A bit of a painful analogy. :o  I was once standing next to my Doc as a tall female Doc walked by, she had long fingers and he looked at me and said " bet she gives one hell of a finger wave".  Makes me pucker to think of it.  Do ya never handgun hunt done there?  Anything taken with a rifle can be taken with the proper handgun. 8)

Nar Mate its illegal to hunt using handguns in NZ . However  a few  pighunters  have, been know to have the very a short barreled rifle  ;) on hand when ther dogs bail a big nasty boar . The custom over here is for the dogs to find and bail the hog while the hunters try to get to this circus as qiuck as poss . On the hunter arriving the dogs go in grab the pigs ears and hold while he slips round the back and lifts up one of the rear legs and filps the hog on his back . In the same smooth motion he slips a knive in and seavers the heart . ( Pig Sticking) is the lingo for this type  hunting . However every now and again they come across a  cunning old , sheep killing , paddock ploughin,dog rippin , ball bustin boar no one wants to stick . Gotta say about now Mr Rem .44 mag shows up an what you know argument is over. ;D ;D Like I said its illegal to hunt using handguns in NZ and I of course don't know of any one who does. ;
 Cheers KK

I guess that is were the Handi-rifle becomes handy. ;D  I also guess the knife you mentioned is a on the large size.  I wouldn't want to come up short on the sticken in case that ear slipped out. 8)
