Smaller frame 3 pound Encore rifle?

Thompson-Center's "Hot Shot" (bottom) compared to the full-sized Encore (top).

Thompson-Center's "Hot Shot" is a nifty little .22 aimed at the youth market.

Hmmm, although I love to see TC add a new product, what's the point - other than price?  I seems to me that the G2 Contender could serve the same purpose, and in fact I have a youth stock for mine.  My daughter loves to shoot it with the 32 Magnum barrel.

Does the HotShot offer the ability to interchange barrels if you want to take the young'un deer hunting?  If they're building a minature Encore and offering it for $190.00, how can they offer it so much cheaper than a G2 Contender?  What gives?

If the trigger is decent, I could see one in my backpack!  The trigger looks a bit wonky though. Made in USA? Three pounds huh?

Price quoted is for volume buying, not retail per rifle.   I think its a fair bet that retail will be considerably higher.

Agree with what's the point?   Nothing at all wrong with a Youth Contender carbine wearing either 16" or 21" barrels for kids.   They can easily handle it's size/weight and it is easily upgradeable to a full sized rifle to grow with them to any kind of hunting they'll ever want to do.

Without seeing one in person I see no reason for it.   Looks like yet another new model TC's come out with over the last 10+ years that I'd never own though.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

My question:  Is this "Hot Shot" not just a G2 with a .22 LR barrel (with a rear peep sight, no less) and a recoil reducing type youth stock?

My next question after looking at the picture a little closer:  Is the trigger on the Hot Shot really like that?  That looks all sorts of uncomfortable.  I didn't notice the ridiculous trigger angle when I was looking at them on T/C's website, but looking at the pic posted by BCP, I have to wonder "what in the world?" on that trigger.

thats what the omega's trigger looks like. but it snaps into place when you cock it.

I have it on good authority that the telepromter is writing a stern letter.

After reading TC's add I think once the hammer is cocked the trigger will pull back, it would have to or there would be a lot of premature shots fired!!

And with the G2 whats the purpose in this gun. Then at the price I may need one for a collectors item after their gone!!!!

Looking closely at the pictures, the G2 frame is a bit different.  If you'll notice, the side reinforcement bars on a G2 do not reach all the way to the front of the frame.  The "Hot Shot" looks like a baby Encore with the side bars extending all the way to the front of the frame, probably for looks only.

I'll bet that the Hot Shot is made from lighter grade materials, and is probably not finished as nicely as TC's other products.  I'll also bet there will be no interchangeable barrels for it either because of the lighter frame.

All this said, I wouldn't mind getting one just for the sake of having it.  The kids would love it!
