S&W snub-nose revolver..model & value?
« on: December 29, 2009, 07:00:10 AM »
I recieved this firearm from my B-in-L. He didn`t know either so thought I`d ask.

.38 cal, 5 shot, chrome plated, spur on hammer, wood grips, fixed sights. He said the hammer spur indicates manufacture befor the 1980`s?

Thanks for the help

Thanks for the help....Open the cly and look inside the area of the frame that swings the cly out....there should be a model number in the frame area there......the most common is a steel frame "Chiefs special" model 36,a light weight version with alum frame is a 37....look to see if there is a small pin sticking out crossways of the top of the frame where the barrel goes into the gunframe....if so that is a "pinned" bbl model and worth more......as to value.....depends if that is a factory chrome job or a aftermarket and the quality of the polish on the aftermarket job......in my area the gun would get 300$ to 400$ according to the condition and which model and factory or ?chrome..and how "loose" it is and the timing....that is if it is marked 38Special and not 38s/w cartridge......hth..good luck and good shooting

Yes, now that you mention it, on the cylinder, a"N"? Pined barrel, plating looks factory, no blemishes, bright and shinny, frame and lock-up are tight. The gun does not appear to have been shot much. ".38 spl" on barrel.

OK...got home, swung the cly. open, and it is indeed a mod.36.

Thanks again
