New Maxie Goes to the range (success) Picture
« on: December 22, 2009, 12:18:47 PM »
Had it to the range 2x now since completing the re-chamber.  The first trip to the range it liked a 180grn XTP over H110 and did real well.  My supplier has been out of the 180's and so am I now so I decided to see how I could get 158 grn XTP's to shoot.  I loaded up 3 each of 3 different powder charges of H110 and did pretty well.  The 1/2 difference made a big difference on this gun with the lower charge being OK, the middle charge (+.5 grn) being exceptional (pictured) and the high end (+1 grn) being unacceptable (like 6" group).  I did cover the amount of H110 I used, but it was under book max..

All shooting was at 100 yards...

I wish they all were this easy.

Nice shooting!  CW has long recommended using 158's in the Maxie, I see why. :o Looks like you got yourself a keeper. :)

I am going to try to run a few across the chrony today to see where they are.  The load manual says around 1850 fps but that is out of an 8 inch barrel.

I'm gonna guess you'll break 2 grand with them easily.

Nice shooting. Move out to 150yds. Since they are grouping so good it would be interesting to see what they will do.

Yes, I will probably do that on my next trip out.  I am curios to see as well.
