I just got a used Marlin 336 RC in .35 Rem. I put a Nikon 1.5 - 4.5 on it. Yesterday I went to sight it in. After getting on paper at 25 I shot it at 100 yards. A pair of shots were 1.5 inches apart and a little low. I Adjusted the scope up and fired another pair and they were about 2.5 inches high and 1.5 inches apart. Even though these were just pairs of shots I was thinking that the accuracy was pretty good.

I had to try it at 200 just to see what it would do and a pair of the 200 gr Win super X factory loads fell 5 inches low and 1.5 inches apart. Again I know a pair of bullets doesnt tell everything but it was looking pretty good.

Moved to 250 yards. 16 inches low and a pair was touching holes. Is this a fluke or can this old Marlin really be this accurate?

Oh.... its a fluke... every body knows lever actions are not that accurate.....Would you like to sell it

Contrary to what the bolt boys think .... MOA accuracy is NOT uncommon.
That 35 remy is a deer killin machine :grin:

Those results are not uncommon. Just dont let the secret out.
Years ago I read something that makes a lot of sense. The tube underneath when fully loaded acts as a counterweight that moves. Everytime you cycle the action you move the weight and change the vibration. If you only load 2 or 3 rounds in the mag you minimize this and usually see increased accuracy.

It even gets better if you smooth the action and do a trigger job on that marlin. I've got several and they all do the job. 38-55, 357, 32spec and .22lr. They all are very accurate, and will shoot pretty close to my bolt guns.

My first deer rifle, a hand-me-down from dad, is as you describe. I too have had excellent results in the accuracy department. This beauty throws to the shoulder just like a shotgun and shoots right to my natural point of aim. Someday, when he graduates from his 243, my boy is gonna love that Marlin too.

I sighted in a friend's one time. With 150 gr. Win. PP ammo, it shot four rounds into one ragged hole at 50 yards. This is with open sights to. At 100, the groups opened up but I think that was my eyes/shooting and not the rifle. I figured it to be around three shots at 1.5-1.75". Not bad.
