6x45 in 527
« on: November 29, 2009, 02:13:53 PM »
I have an interest in building a 6x45 which is a necked up 223.  I currently have a nice american 527 in 223 and wondered if anyone has a clue if such a conversion could be made.  Thanks, Gary

I don't have a clue, but I think the main thing to check would be cartridge overall length, since the 6mm bullets are farily long. I don't think there is much excess room ( length ) in the magazine beyond the .223 length.

I have a 527 Full Stock 223 that I really want to rebore to 6mm or .257. The 2 magazines I have are just a little too tight on the necks of 6x45 rounds to function, but a few thousandths filed out of the interior should fix that, the metal is .030" thick. The magazine is long enough for 6mm or 25-223, Im not sure about anything bigger. 6x45 feeds great (the top round fits fine in the mag). 6mm TCU, which has a 40 degree shoulder, feeds, but is too clunky for my taste. Im thinking that a 80 or 85 grain bullet at 2700 would be a great deer load for smaller species at least. Trouble is, I have killed 3 deer with this 223 and have zero complaints about it as is.

I may just have to get another 527 and convert it.

I can see no reason the conversion would not work, and I would think that the orginal clips would work properly. I have a 6 x 47 and that ammo would fit in my .204 clip if I seated the bullet back alittle. I would recomand you get a short throught as you will not be able to set the bullets out to far.
