Crazy Question
« on: December 06, 2009, 06:18:56 AM »
I know this may sound like I don't know nothing but I have messing around with our beloved Handis for about five years now and have always wondered about this. Where exactly is the latch located on a Handi? Thanks

Open the action, work the barrel release and look below the firing pin, you'll see the bright finished latch moving.  ;)

The "latch lever" is the thing on the side, ya push too open the breech. I think? ;D

The Latch bar is the thing that contacts that little flat part that sticks out (latch shelf) just under the bore,
I think? ;D

I'm not sure that question was crazy, but it did seem random.....

No, not crazy at all. Some of us spout off like everyone understands the firearms terminology. (I myself am guilty as charged) We forget there are new comers or those who do not completely understand.

In the FAQS is a exploded view showing all parts and there names.

Don't be confused by the terminology on the parts schematic, they call the latch a catch, other parts have different names than commonly referred to here, for example  the transfer bar is called a lifter and striker.  :D

Is that the same thing as the little deely-bob, behind that hammer lookin part, that operates back and forth, the little silver thingy, at the bottom of the housing part that the barrel fits into? ;D
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

It's all a mystery to me sometimes.  You know what they say, the only silly question is the one that you don't ask because you think you will look silly....or something like that.

I agree with nechi... just examine the info but keep a clear head.  long story short, wipe down the latch surfaces and lock up the action tight.  get a good sight picture, focus on the front site... follow through on the trigger.  if you loaded your ammo right it'll be good to go, the ballistic math isn't going to make or break you in a few hundred yds, just holdover for range and you're good.
