What is the lightest weight Handi Rifle stock and forend?
« on: December 02, 2009, 11:31:07 AM »
Does anyone know?

What is the lightest weight (in ounces) stock and forend for a Handi Rifle?

I'm asking because I'm trying to design a light-weight hunting outfit for an extended backpacking trip.

The Choate furniture is solid plastic, isn't it?

Thanks!

The buttstock is hollow and the forearm is mostly hollow. There is some ribbing in the forearm.
The set is very light. I have synthetics on my 32-20 Handi and it weighs 5 pounds with a scope on it.

A 5lb. rifle can surely be a pleasure in the woods!

My 32-20 is the sweetest little rifle in the world. It's light to carry and shoots very well. It's one of the "Trotter Specials".  It's the first 32-20 he built.
If you do a search for 32-20 with trotterlg you will see my barrel as he built it.
And NO it's not for sale. :D

How light would a 16" 45-70 be with plastic stock and no scope?

Yup, I too LOVE my 32-20. As much as I love to talk about it, this is about stock weight.  ::)

I recommend the factory synthetic. I do not know of anything lighter. Yes it is hollow...

Both the new and old style syn stock sets weight the same, 1lb-4oz as stated in the FAQs, I suspect the Tamer weighs less as Wreckhog suggested.  ;)
