restoring a SMLE
« on: November 03, 2003, 07:09:27 AM »
i've decided that instead of shelling out $200 for a good condition full stocked no.1, i'll just "restore" one of them that i already have . i choose my '41 numbers matching lithgow aresenal because it's got a good barrel and a really smooth action.and i'll still have my parker & hale ishapore for hunting. the buttstock is original but i will need all the wood forward of the trigger, as well as the nosecap, bayonet lug and all the hardware. any one have an idea of what this would cost? also are lower serial numbered guns more valuable, and what is considered a low serial number? the lithgow's # is under 15,000
" oh we didn't sink the bismarck, and we didn't fight at all, we spent our time in Norfolk and we really had a ball. chasing after women while our ship was overhauled, living it up on grapefruit juice and sick bay alcohol"

Check numrich gun parts for stocks w/ hardware  I bought swede stocks and M1895 mauser stocks this way and they came with all the hardware. Sometimes they have two listings on stocks too you can buy parts/pieces or just hardware.

you may want to look at www.sportsmansguide.com a while back he had some new wood for the enfield at what I thought was a reasonable price. Didn't buy it because the wood is the only thing good on mine.
