Custom .500 questions
« on: November 30, 2009, 11:11:43 PM »
Looking at getting the H&R .500 for a do it all truck gun and just for (censored word) and giggles.

Anyone shorten the barrel to 16"??

If I shortened it I would want a muzzle break, any ideas?

Also last thing was the thought of a scout type scope added.

If anyone has done somthing similar or has links to gunsmiths that have done this or links to products to fit these questions I would appreciate it.

I don't have a .500.....yet.  But, I would think a .357 Maximum would be a lot more versatile.  I may do this yet.  Shorten to 16.5 inches, put a youth stock and a red dot scope on it.  Put a nine round buttstock cartridge holder on it with 3 each .38s, .357 mag and Maxis and you'd be good for anything day or night.

Putting a muzzle brake on the .500 would probably blow the windows out of your truck ;D

I don't think you'd need a brake for a truck gun.  You wouldn't notice the recoil, which wouldn't even be that bad, and with a scout scope there's no worry of getting cut.  A 16" .500 would be mighty compact and powerful.
