Magnumitis, 41 strain found in NW Indiana!
« on: October 19, 2003, 05:00:48 AM »
I seem to have magnumitis this week, the 41 strain.

It is the 50th anniversery of the 41 mag, and I have purchased two guns this week to celebrate.

First was a Raging Bull, 6-1/2 inch.  Second is a S&W 57-1.

The S&W 57-1 has a 4 inch barrel, pachmar grips and FIXED NIGHT SIGHTS.
previous ownere removed both front and rear sights and installed non adjustable night sights.

I bought this gun for 285 at a local gun shop,  seemed a good price since the gun is in excellent shape with an extra crisp trigger that breaks at 40 ounces (somebody has worked on this trigger).

I was considering changing the sights back to original the rear sights seems to be glued on any thoughts on removal?

Thanks!

Happy :  I would contact the nite sight manufacturer if known and ask them if they recomend a way to remove the glued on sites, years ago pachmayer sold a rib to go on the ruger single actions that was installed with a black epoxey and I would hate to have to remove one of them but I would try a little heat first, as like locktite most of those products are a plastic based product that responds to heat, but sparingly of course. :D   JIM

Dang, I missed the celebration. I guess it slipped by me that my favorite cartridge had a birthday.
But it must have been Deja Vu anyway as I bought another .41 last week. It wasn't planned, I just could not resist.

Ruger Redhawk 7.5, Stainless, integral scope rings with a Pentax 2X. All in like new shape, $300 from an individual.

I have not taken it to the range yet but hope to go next week.

FTW,

Happy birthday, I sure admire the present you got!

That sounds like a great bargin.  I have been looking for that gun up hear in Indiana, but decided to "settle" on the Raging Bull".  I am here to say that The Bull is a great 41!   The smallest caliber offered in the RB it is a mild shooter even with stiff loads.

Next to celebrate we need the Marlin lever gun in 41, and to find an old Dessert Eagle.

Happy Birthday!

That strain also popped up in Central NY.  Earlier this year I bought a used 657 3" with a magnaported bbl.  I just picked up an unfired 657-4 Classic Hunter 2, with the 6.5" powerport bbl, and laminate wood grips.  Only 500 made, and I found one unfired!  This has become my favorite cartridge.  Good Shootin' all!
Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!

I too, suffer from 41magnumitis.  I caught this back about 5 years ago with the purchase of the then new 41mtngun.  I've worstened since late summer with the purchase if a 414DW Supermag.  To make matters worse, I've been lookin to get into a 41AE sometime.  Now, if only I could limit myself to one caliber.     NOT LIKELY though!
