Remington 1100 question

Can these guns shoot a 3" deer slug?

If it's a 3" magnum gun yes, if 2.75" then no.

How can I tell the difference?  Is there some indication on the gun itself?

I don't know where the markings are on am 100 but possibly on the barrel near the receiver on the left side? It should have it stamped on there somewhere.

Yep! LH rear of the barrel will tell ya which chamber it has.

If the receiver is a 3" magnum then the word Magnum will be etched right into the left side of it. If not even with a 3" barrel on it the rounds might not eject.

If my memory serves me correctly, an "M" at the end of the serial number on the receiver will identify the gun as being a magnum. You can't always go by the barrel markings as some guns have had the barrels switched.  ie. a magnum barrel placed on a standard non-magnum receiver.

I'll double check tonight.  Just to be safe though, I went out last night & bought a couple of boxes of 2-3/4" shells.

I have an 1100 mag and it should say magnum on the receiver.Make sure the barrel says 3'' shells.I have a couple 2 3/4'' barrels for mine also.My slug barrel is a hastings non mag barrel.Just make sure someone didn't put a 2 3/4'' barrel on it if you have 3'' slugs.
