Handi NEF Synthetic Butt, a bit light ?
« on: November 17, 2009, 07:19:47 PM »
Hi there, I'm a newbie to the Handi's and about to embark on the .243 experience. It seems to me though, even before I fire a shot, that the synthetic butt is pretty lightweight, almost too light. Has anyone filled one before with anything ? Making sure the attachment bolt is still accessible obviously. Or can/should I buy a wood butt ? . . . or should I just eat a spoonful of concrete and harden up !!
Your thoughts would be appreciated, thanks, Red. :)

The wood ones will fit, both "pallet wood" and laminated. The heavier recoiling HEF's come with a steal bar that fits in the stock bolt recess hole, in the wood buttstocks,  to help hold down recoil. The synthetic butts just have a big recess, no reason you couldn't put a tough bag with birdshot in there, or something similar.

Red,

The 243 i have was bought for the nephew and is the ultra lite youth model, I placed the new synthetic black stock on it for this last weekend and laying in the prone position to check if POI had changed .. I fired several times and never had any issues with recoil ... Now if its a balance issue then you can load up the stock or as you mentioned a wood stock would work .. But dont change anything till you have had a chance to shoot it, You will probably be pleseantly surprised.

I have heard some stash some emergency gear in there too. You would need a screwdriver to get it out
if needed.
