T/C Encore vs Savage Striker
« on: December 08, 2003, 03:52:00 PM »
I was thinking about an Encore or Savage Striker in .22-250 for Coyotes and our small deer here in Florida. My dealer can get a .22-250 Encore Hunter Package for $600 out the door or I can get an unscoped stainless for about $500 and then buy mounts and scope seperately. Is the T/C scope any good and is this a good price? If I go with a Savage I will have to get one off the auction sites and end up spending around the same amount but I hear they are very accurate. I have owned several Contenders many years ago but have not tried the Encore or Savage.

If I am doing the number right that sounds like a good price.  I have 3 2.5-7x T/C scopes and have never had a problem with them.  They are actually my favorite scope after the Leopold 2x.

I have an Encore pistol and have a 22-250 barrel with a Weaver 2X8X28 scope on it. I can shoot golfball at 200 yards with it. I looked at the Savage Strikers, but got what I knew would work for me. I have had contenders for some time and I love them, so I figured the Encore would give me the same good results, and it does. Go with the Encore, you will glad you did. Just my humble opinion. :)

:D  The striker is nice but I would go with the encore it will be lighter & you can change barrels you can even go with a rifle if you want. The only advantage to the striker is  NONE :D

I do not have a encore yet but shoot the tc's and would go that route over the striker if for no other reason then being able to change barrels. On a side note, I would go with the ss model you mentioned unless you are going to wear ear protection all the time.
be safe and god bless

I have several Contenders and one Striker. The Striker I have has such a terrible trigger pull (even with the Rifle Basix package) I doubt I would ever buy another Striker. I have three Remington XP's and all their triggers are crisp and clean. My next pistol will be an Encore!

I JUST GOT DONE HUNTING DEER WITH MY ENCORE HERE IN IOWA.  I GOT A DOE AND A NICE 10 POINT BUCK.  EVEN IN .44 MAGNUM,  I CAN PUT BULLETS IN A 4" CIRCLE AT 100 YARDS ALL DAY LONG.  GO FOR THE ENCORE!  IT HAS A GOOD TRIGGER TO START WITH, BUT YOU CAN GET IT ADJUSTED IF NEED BE.  I LOVE THE INTERCHANGABLE BARRELS ALSO.  JUST MY BIASED OPINION.  TCTRAV.

Well I ordered the T/C Hunter yesterday and got to look at it when it came in today. I have to wait until Friday to pick it up thanks to Florida's 3 day waiting period (I bet the hoodlums are just lining up to get a 15 inch, 5 pound scoped pistol to create mayhem with). I picked up some 55 grain Federal Trophy Bonded Bearclaws for deer (yeah I know it is small but so are Florida deer) but will they work on Coyotes. If not is there a good 55 grain bullet to use so I can hopefully use one sight in?

Most of the time for deer I will be using a .260 Rifle or a .44 Mag Bisley Blackhawk. I will use the .22-250 from a treestand at less than 100 yards on unsuspecting deer.
