I cast the Diablo 12 gauge slug from lyman and use the WAA12 I think it is wads and typical star crimp which makes it about as cheap as doing 00-Buck.  I use a MEC 600Jr single stage press.  Its no tack driver but it aint too shabby either and is easy to load!  This slug is not all that great for penetration but it does massive amounts of damage on target.  I use this load for ferrel Hogs mainlt and its like a sledge hammer!

It' really as expensive as you waant it to be. I hardly use my press for slugs. It's different than shot. A roll crimper which is light years ahead of a standard fold crimp, costs $25.00.

You can get by with a set of dippers but I suggest a scale also.

A priming tool or if your cheap, a dowel and primers, Wads (if your load calls for them, gas seals otherwise), slugs and powder...and your ready to roll.

I disagree that penetration isn't great. Depends on the load and slug. Solid brass slugs at 2000 fps will shoot through any North American animal in existence.

Roll crimping is nice but I found it to be totally unnecessary with both the Lee slug and the Lyman 525 gr. FP.  I use the Data from Lee's mold for the lees and data out of the latest Lyman shot shell manual for the Lyman's.  I do remember using Winchester AA wads with the Lyman and Federal wads with the Lee's,   Both hit like the hammer of thor and both shot well from smooth bore and rifled barrels. We even found that a rifled choke tube shot them well also.

I also use a 600Jr press or a 700 MEC.

Roll Crimper from Ballistic Products $27, Lee Load All Cabelas $43.  Powder Dippers $9.  I like having a load all, because I can use it to do my shot loading also.  The Dangerous Game Slug from ballisticproducts.com is the best and easiest slug I have loaded.  Shoots great in a smooth bore or rifled barrel.  The reason I like to reload slugs the most is consistency.  I built an accurate load for my slug gun, and now I have it forever.  I do not have to worry about new and improved loads that change how they shoot, or availability in the stores.  I can reload for $0.50 per slug so I have them stocked up.
