Ruger Model 96 lever action rifles
« on: November 02, 2003, 04:59:28 AM »
Does anyone have a Ruger Model 96 rifle?  I am most interested in the 22 lr and 22 wrm versions.

I have a 44 magnum model 96 which is fun to shoot.

I also have a Marlin 336 in 30/30 and a Model 1895  45/70.  I used to have a Wincheswter Model 94 in 30/30 but sold it because the Marlin was more accurate and the 1955 Model 94 sold for $450.

Hi 22,
Yeah - a 96/22Mag.  No major problems.  Smooooth action, and fast.  The double extractors work flawlessly.

I'm a bit of a tinkerer, so here's what I've done:  I placed some plastic bushings to keep the sear centered on the trigger.  There was a wee bit of side slop there.

I've also mounted a Williams peep sight.  Just a preference.

Now after a few rounds - and I shoot 50 at a time - the barrel gets hot - so I've made a wooden barrel shroud for the forearm.  It's not mounted yet.  I'll have to ping out the blade sight, set a mounting bracket at the end, etc.

I'm glad to hear good things about the 44.

Cheers!
