The Right Price For A Handi!
« on: October 20, 2009, 09:23:29 AM »
Picked up 2 yesterday, both in exc. cond. both SB2's, both scoped(1 wearing a vintage 3-9 Redfield) both with wood stocks(1 a youth) and perfect bores with ejectors, 1 was a 243/20ga combo, the other a .22 Hornet, out the door, tax included $300 for both! ;)
And you know, there's no way I would ever pay $150 for ANY Handi, but when he threw in 3 boxes of ammo for each, and 2 like new, leather slings, well, I had to reach for the wallet! ;D

A combo and rifle, slings and ammo for $300?  Can I follow you around and see how you find deals like that?!

Nothing to it, just live in a very poor state, guns are always the first thing to go to fill the gas tank or furnace with fuel oil.
And don't think the pawn dealers don't take advantage! I saw a young guy about a month back walk in and the guy behind the counter said he had no money to lend, HOWEVER, he did have cash for a straight sale! the kid (probably about 25yrs old) left with 2 nice crispy $100 bills in his hand. What he left on the counter was a Winchester .30 carbine that had been his Gramps, and a 12ga. 3.5" camo, Mossberg pump, unfired in the box!
The pawnbroker wasn't willing to triple his money in 2 minutes, I offered him $600.
The .30 carbine was all orig and NICE, non-import too, easily a $800-$1000 piece.

I have known MagLvr44 for longer then I care to admit and he does find amazing deals all the time, but don't let him fool ya its a knack only he, and a lucky few seem to have for being in the right place at the right time. He is like a Vulture he seems to smell a deal coming from a mile away. I have seen it first hand I know what he does and I still don't make deals like he does.

What state is this? Sounds like time to pull some extra OT at the hospital in this manufactured flu emergency and then make a road trip!  ;D

I think you got me beat, my gunsmith just purchased a 45-70 Handi brand-new with synthetic stock for $170. It's mine for the same price as soon as I get back.  He didn't get a dealer's price either cuz I think he got it at Gander Mtn. :o

Depending on the laws in your state (It's legal in Va) watch the gun buybacks and lust walk the lines outside. I've gotten some unbelievable deals. There are always a few H&R's and I've always passed on them. I won't anymore (I have the fever ;D)

Not a bad idea to run the serial number later if you have a friend who's a cop. I've never gotten a stolen one but there's always a first time.

Good idea to carry a receipt book with you and have THEM fill it out, with a drivers license #  ;)
