10 inch Octagon .45 colt barrel

Gentleman and Ladies, new to the forum and have a quick rookie qestion: Is this barrel safe/strong enough to shoot hot Long Colt loads? Does it have any value?.. got it with a gun deal. thanks!! David from Alabama.

I don't have any info on if the barrel is strong enough, but I have shot some pretty stout loads out of mine in the past and won't try it again. The muzzle rise gets pretty nasty. I may be overly recoil sensitive though.

     Yep, it will stand the TC and Ruger only loads if you can.  That 10" Octagon barrel in .44Mag or 45 Colt either one is a wicked dude.  I don't know anything that has a muzzle snap quite like it.

Ditto, dressed with wood and irons mine is brutal even with mid Ruger-level loads.  The extra weight of rubber helps a lot!  But I find I don't need maximum Ruger-level loads in my .45 LCs.  A 200 or a 250-grain bullet at 1000-1100 fps work for everything I need, from deer to hogs.  I just choose the bullet design that's appropriate and go to shooting.  More fun and just as efficient.
