good ole remington
« on: September 25, 2009, 07:15:36 AM »
i sent my handi 500 back to ilion about 2 months ago because it is a new gun with reamer gouges in the bore. i wanted a new barrel under warranty, i also asked them to add a thumbhole stock and gave them a credit card # to pay for the stock, the ups man pulls up 15 minutes ago with the rifle COD $197.74 i told him that wasn't right he said he would bring it back next monday to give me time to straighten it out. i call remington the person says " looks like they charged you for the barrel also". i said what about my credit card what did they do with that? he said "i don't know". he said he would email them and let me know something. i said can you let me know today, he said probably not. there has got to be a way to cost remington for their piss poor work. they should never have sold the weapon with a bad barrel in the first place. isn't there a lawyer out there that would file a class action lawsuit against remington on behalf of all us consumers who have been screwed by remington both in product and service? if we let the lawyer keep all the money might be worth it to them. remington only cares about the money so that is the way to fix them

The whole thing sounds archaic.  Why can't they have you pay for it to get it, and issue a refund check now???  I'd be pitchin a bitch.  In fact, I'd be booking a trip to NY or SC.  I'm one of those weird people who would spend a thousand dollars to make a ten dollar point if I feel I'm right.  I think you need to climb the ladder at Remington and talk to someone senior in customer service or PR.  I have, and it worked well.  I'll bet they could get you that check tomorrow.

Pete is right, I would get on the hot line with someone and just keep going higher until you have them send that check express mail to your door.

I would not let it go, until you get names and confirmation, but get after them!

what does 30 days or 3 weeks have to do with anything? They should not have charged it to begin with.

I wonder where the COD came from ? Just try and get them to do anything for you COD and see what they say. Why do they want your phone # your address and an email address when you buy something then send you something COD instead of trying to call or send you a letter. These guys get more amazing every day. Kurt

I think I'd pay the cod so you get the gun in your hands. With a credit card if it's possible. Never did cod with UPS. I also think they should throw in the stock for your trouble. I'd say they are mentally challenged but don't want them reading this and putting me on a list, then I'll have more trouble when I decide I have the patience to get my barrels. No worries they would loose the list. Get your gun and go Hunting. Good Luck!

well i paid the $197.74 COD charge so i could get my handi from ups and let remington pay me back for the new barrel and i could use it for deer season. i opened the shipping box and looked the weapon over. was a small amount of rust on the new barrel and with the weapon locked up in battery position i can twist the barrel back and forth. i can still see reamer marks in the new barrel but they are not nearly as deep as they were in the old barrel. when i looked at semi-circle lugs on the barrel that fit to the pin in the reciever it looks like a round wood rasp was used to file it down. the fore end did fit tight on the old barrel and it fits loose on the new barrel. all in all i am sick ,this is the only handi i have ever bought and it will probably be the last.       searlock

That barrel should not be loose once locked up, and will not shoot if it's loose.

I would call them and talk to the top dog, and tell them your story and send it back with them paying the postage.

Ask for every dime they owe you and demand that they make it right or else.

You won't get this rifle back in time to hunt with it, but I would call them every other day just to remind them they need to make it good, and hurry up.

That ain't right, and I'm with the rest.  Keep after them till things are to your satisfaction.  I had issues when they first moved to Illion and it took awhile to get things squired away, but with enough phone calls and climbing the chain of command, I got what I wanted.  I have the name of the head of C/S and his phone number at work.  PM me and I'll get it to you.  (If he hasn't changed it due to the number of people I've given it to.)  After a year they should have gotten this transition smoothed out.  I will just buy from here or what I can get in my hands to look at.  DP

I was thinking about sending in for a 45 Colt barrel....maybe now I wont.  With my luck I'd have some sort of horror story far worse than anyone else....

Lazermule, I'd hold off sending in your frame, I think they quit offering the 45 colt in barrel program. You might get one of the 47 cal. barrels :D

searlock:   Please keep us updated on what finally happens with this mess, as there are many here who follow these horror stories, and  who still feel that the problems will eventually be resolved, and that they will get their act together shortly.

I have hopes of one day ordering a barrel, but until they show some desire to actually satisfy their customers, and start to build quality and craftsmanship into their products once again, a lot of us are going to remain on the fence or just jump off of it all together.

Having problems with barrels not in stock is one thing and they may have little control over that phase of the operation, but this other Quality Control, and Customer Service problems are an easy fix, that is if they really want to fix it.

I've worked in the service industry all my life and I'm now retired and you have to understand one thing, and it's been said time and again, "the customer is always right, and without them you have no job!"

You know I went to their site right after I posted that and saw that they no longer offer the 45LC.  Was there an issue?  When you say 47 cal, were they running big?

I wonder if they will straighten it out and offer it again??
Thanks,

Lazermule, Sorry I just picked a number. Bad attempt at sarcasim. No I don't think anyone was having problems with the 45 like the older 44s. Must have not had enough demand for the barrel program. Maybe more people wanted the carbine instead of just the caliber. I figured a 47 cal would be a bad horror story. You may find one in the classifieds. Maybe harder to find now. Good Luck.

There are a lot of barrels they're out of stock on, the 45LC is just marked as such, they aren't discontinuing it if that's what you're worried about, it's just not available as an accessory barrel now.  ;)

Maybe they are just trying to get rid of all the Gardner bbl's before they start to sell the new ones if they get folks to send in there frames then turn around and tell them they are out of that bbl they can talk them into buying one of the bbl's in stock since thier frame is already there nothing that is happening there surprises me anymore. Well, I hope they will restock the 45LC barrel soon.  I am finally in a position to send in for one and now they are unavailable.

Anyone have one they want to dump?  Reamed to 454 Casul? Even better....

i talked to customer service over a week ago and was told i would be sent a ups shipping tag for this handi, well still hadn't recieved it. i was told at the time that my refund for the barrel i was charged cod for would be sent to me in 30 to 45 days. so i called cs today and told them i wanted to speak to their supervisor they transfered me and i had to leave a message. the supervisor just called me and told me he was sorry for the problems i have had. i asked him if the barrel could be repaired as steve at cs had said, he said he didn't know that would be up to the repairman, but sometimes an oversize pin can be put in the reciever to take up the slop. he told me that a ups tag would be sent today and i could expect my refund in 7 to 10 days. he told me he would give the weapon a repair # so that it wouldn't have to go through the check in process. he checked and said that they had new barrels at ilion if it needed one. if they get it back soon and it is not screwed up again i might still be able to hunt this season with it. this is a nightmare i can't seem to wake up from.

sent my 500 handi back to remington for the second time. it was delivered on 10-15-09 and i got it back today 10-23-09. i have to say i am well pleased with the weapon, action is nice and tight, they put a new barrel on it. the bore is smooth, no reamer marks. remington sent me a check for the cod i had to pay. my hat is off to Mark Johnson at Remington for his quick action and superb service to me. i mounted my scope on it and loaded it with 500 grain hornady from doubletap and shot two 3 shot groups just under two inches at 100 yards after dialing in the scope. i wish it could have done this from the start but as they say, all is well that ends well. again many thanks to Mr. Johnson and Remington. now i plan to send it back to Remington when they get the new forge plant up and running and get me a 30-30 barrel for this frame.
