Valmet 412 Shotgun Chambering
« on: April 24, 2010, 01:11:09 PM »
Well, I almost bought that one on Gun Broker with two barrels!

However, when I found out it was only chambered for 2-3/4" shells I decided not to.

So; were all the 412's (combo barrels especially) only available in 2-3/4" chambers?

I've trolled around on Google but I can't find a definitive answer.

If so, is it at all possible to have a 412 converted to a 3" chamber?

Many thanks to all for the continued advice.

Best regards,

Steve

Steve,
I have used 3 inch shells on all my Valmet 412 shot gun barrels.

What were the markings on the 412 shotgun barrel?

dougk,

I don't know.

I asked the seller what ALL the shotgun chambers were (given that there was an O/U shotgun barrel & a rifle/shotgun barrel).

They replied that it was chambered for 2-3/4".

Perhaps they made a mistake?

Many thanks,

Steve

No.

3" chambers are as common as 2-3/4", at least in Europe.

The truth is, all EARLY combo bbls were 70mm (2-3/4") and all LATER bbls were 76mm (3").  You can lenghten any 70mm to 76mm with out any problems with the bbls. or action...

Drilling man,

Thank you very much for providing that bit of information.

If only I had known sooner (isn't that often the lament).

Oh well; back to the search.

Best regards,

Steve
