Remington Forums or Reviews on the 750?
« on: October 09, 2009, 07:17:12 AM »
Hello,
I've been trying to do a little research and find some reviews on teh Remington 750.  I have found one review for a 750 in 30-06 and that's just not enough for me to make a decision on.  It was on guntests.com
I was wondering if any of you knew of knew where I could find a review or knew of a Remington specific web forum.  I've learned a lot on this forum and it's my favorite, but for example sometimes if I'd have a very specific question about a marlin rifle I'd go to marlinowners.com.
If any has any thoughts I'd appreciate it.

I notice this forum has a "Search" feature.  I suspect you might find your answer by searching on your topic.  I've never used it so I am uncertain what is involved.  Should be no harder than programing an old VCR.

I've searched this forum and many others and haven't really found what I'm looking for.

I don't know of any Remington specific forums.   I'd love to get a 750 Carbine in 308 Win.   However I'm VERY reluctant to get one.   I know a bunch of guys that have had major trouble with Remington 740 and 7400 semi-auto rifles.   I think the 750 is supposed to be better.   I've read some bad things about them too.   Try to Google search them.   I'm sure a lot of things will show up about them.

Good luck.

I've already done a bunch of google searches. The problem is that there's a lot of different configuations of the rifle and I never find a review of the one I'd like to get.

I'm hesitant to buy one because too because of all the bad talk about the 740's and 7400's.

If you have worries now, you will always be wondering when you have one. My suggestion is to cast your eyes on the Brownings.

I have been looking at the 750 for a few years, making sure it is what I would want and how it would fit in with my long-term hunting needs.

Here is a review from Rifle Shooter Mag...

http://www.rifleshootermag.com/featured_rifles/remingtonwood_052207/

Compared to previous models it has a cleaner and more reliable gas system, which I think would be the price of entry - $620 synthetic delivered from Buds.

The most amount of crap you will read has to do with feeding. Here is what I found about fixing feeding issues. If this fix does not work, send it back.

Short actions Remington Semi-Autos have less reported feed issues than the long-action. Model 750 feeding issues likely has been factory fixed or can be fixed by this example below.

Perhaps my Remington auto experience may help (folks) having feeding problems.

Around 15 years ago I traded a Winchester 670 for a Remington 742, and the guy told me the 742 jammed which it did with bullet nose jamming into feed ramp only on right side of magazine. Using pliers and a handkerchief to avoid scratching magazine, I bent upward on magazine lip enough to allow rounds to pop up at greater angle and feed properly with no more jams in 15 years.

Recently I purchased a 750 in 35 Whelen which had the opposite problem, i.e. rounds were popping up at too great an angle resulting in jam into top of chamber only on right side of magazine. Using same procedure of 15 years ago but bending inward on magazine lip until proper feed angle was achieved resulted in flawless feed for the new rifle.

Note manual cycle of rounds from magazine is necessary to easily identify the problem which may be undetectable by actual firing. This procedure may not help all, but it should help where this magazine flaw is the culprit. BTW I've had a Remington model 4 in 308 for about 10 years which has never had any problem, and all things considered I like Remington autos. Incidentally I shoot only handloads in all centerfires including the autos in case anybody's interested.

Good luck.

The thing you need to remember with any remington autoloader is that sooner or later your model will be dropped and the parts will be gone.  There are many folks that were stuck with old  740 and 742 rifles and no parts can be had.  Remington is no help either.  The Browning BAR had changed very little in over a 100 years.  I'd go with Browning or try to find a Benneli.  They are not much more and your kids won't be stuck with a tomato stake after you're gone.
