Sending in for a new barrel

I have an sb2 receiver just laying around, do you think it's worth sending in for a 44mag barrel at this time?  I called CS and they said there is a tremendous backorder of that barrel.  I would like to have it for the last week of our primitive weapon season in late Jan.  What do ya think?  Should I send it in and get on the backlog (heard horror stories about lost receivers, etc) or wait until spring 2010?

I wouldn't plan on getting it in time, the schedule for 357 and 44mag barrel production is a 3 month window started in September, it could be as late as November before they make any of em, by the time they get to you they may be out of barrels already, or you'll just get it late, I'd make an alternate plan.

I really don't have to have it back.  I have the trusty 45/70 as a backup plan.  Do you think alot of folks have sent in receivers waiting on the barrels to be produced.  Just planning on getting away from some of the recoil, may try one of the mercury suppressors in it(45/70).

I don't understand why they don't crank up production already.
The demand is there and they are backordered
Seems like a clear sign to me they NEED TO MAKE MORE

I dunno how many are planned in the run, I'll ask, but my H&R contact is dealing with a family health emergency and I don't expect he'll have access to the info. Common sense dictates they should order enough barrels to fill all of the existing backorders plus enough to fill a reasonable expectation of a few month future orders, but their production schedules are set up months in advance, so that may not happen. The 44mag is real popular for the Indiana, MS and LA deer seasons, their marketing department should be aware of the demand, but the economic situation may dictate otherwise, probably depends on their profit margin on accessory barrels, they probably make more money on complete firearms.

I wonder how hard the complete rifles are to find, and even if they have enough of them for the demand?

Could be the run on ammo and guns since the election has still got a lot of the factories running way behind, and then with the economy the way it is makes it hard to plan long term for those folks also.

I am still wanting a 45LC barrel, gimee a holler when they ramp up on those again.

Hey, how about a stick on production schedules???  Would that be useful?

I got a reply back, his son is doing much better so he's back to work, but he's not in his office yet, will be in the field until next week when he can check the production schedule.
