Hellofa scare today
« on: September 28, 2009, 02:43:44 PM »
Was outworking this morning and traveling from one job to the next.On the radio came a"breaking news".Sheriff's deputy shot!!!My heart stopped as my son is a Deputy.Tried calling him and no answer.Lumps and goose bumps all over. Finally his twin brother called me on the cell.IT"S NOT DOUG!!!!!!!!!!While I was talking to him my daughter in law called saying the same thing.Large relief start to over whelm me.He finally called and said he was in route to the scene. He didn't no any thing yet but would call back. When he did he said the deputy was shot while investigating a car break in.The perp had called 911 and said his truck had been broken in to.The deputy knocked on the door and was shot twice and the bad guy had fled the scene. As the day progressed they cornered  him in farm house and was shot(not dead yet). The deputy died about 4:30 this afternoon.I'm still shaking and mad as hell.It could've been my son just doing his job on a very routine call..Prayers needed for the slain officer and his fellow officers and families.Slow

prayers are sent.

Alot of my friends work as leo's, mostly game/fish commision, and DCNR, but when I get a BOLO fax about a wounded officer, I literly live in a durango the rest of my shift looking for anything out of place on the project. Alot of criminals don't think they will look at a lake or gamelands, but that is the first place they go to dump evidence.

Truly sorry about the loss of the Deputy!!
As a retired LEO ( disabled in line of duty ), I get a kick out of the various posts on the web, including this site, unfortunately, where all LEO's are lumped together as donut eaters, corrupt, lazy, inept, etc. etc.
Truth is, it's one of the few professions that deranged folks seek out to murder, either through mental illness, "suicide by cop", pure anger, etc. etc.
To paraphrase Kermit the frog, its's not easy being green ( or blue, etc. ).
I hope your son has a long, fruitfull, and safe career!! Remember, NO SUCH THING as a "routine call"!!

Prayers for the deputys' family.

I am one that makes jokes about the donuts and coffee shops, however its is all in jest. I do know and realize that most are good people trying to help others. Sadly they risk their lives and many have lost them at the hands of pure scum killed for no reason.

I'll keep a good thought for them. Prayers alway help.

Kind of in the same boat as you.
Son-in-law just signed up recently and it scares the crud out of me when I hear these things.
I know he's safe and doesn't unnecessarily take risks, but just like above you never know what lunatic is waiting for you.

What a beautiful service it was.Sad ,but beautiful. There was officers from all over there.Must of been 500(at least)Patriot Guard members with flags.Easily a couple of thousand people. The church held 1500 at there was a very large over flow outside. The Priest read a letter that his Dad wrote and it could've been coming out of my head, with the same words.Very good service, but as I said very, very sad.26 yrs young  is way to early to be shot down like that.Shook hands with his Dad and told him that I could've been in his shoes.I found out yesterday that my son was suppose to have been on that beat. They traded after the squad meeting.Makes me shake just to think about it.Slow

Everytime I hear one of our troops has been killed in Afganistan I hold my breath until I hear the details.

Understand completely; Here's a kudo to those (military or Leos) who stand ready to take the slugs for the rest of us. Prayers for the family, they need God's hand now..
It was when my grandson was serving in Iraq (Ramadi/Fallujah area), when the news came that 3 were killed in his special ops company and we knew that fact alone meant those three came out of appx a hundred active, in the enemy's face, combat troops, my grandson being one of them. My son had a number to call, and when we did, the person (I believe in the Pentagon) answering simply asked ..What's your Marine's name? When my son told her, she quietly said , "His name is not on the casualty list".
Great relief for us, but almost immediate concern for the families who wouldn't be getting the same answer.
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

Thanks and prayers to all who risk all to keep us safe.  A special prayer for this man's family.
