Handi's as a major form of entertainment
« on: September 27, 2009, 07:07:30 AM »
They are SO neat!   8)  Say you want to try a certain cartridge but don't want to spend several hundred dollars on a bolt/lever/semi rifle.  Get a Handi!

Then when you get one you wonder, will it shoot?  So you have the anticipation factor that makes you find time to go to the range!   :)

If it shoots, GREAT!  If it doesn't, well "only accurate rifles are interesting," but helping a Handi live up to it's accuracy potential can provide you with anywhere from a few minutes to hours of FUN!!!   Not to mention the feeling of accomplishment!  ;D

Not long ago I bought a 25-06 barrel from our classifieds.  I'd long wanted to play with that cartridge and the barrel was offered at a good price.  Just about the same time an action was listed at a very good price.  I bought both.  And wouldn't you know it, the barrel and action went together like they were made for each other!  Darn it!   ::)  No fitting fun there!   :(  Oh well, I just added a scope and a stock set I had laying around, remember, you can personalize Handi's with new/different wood/plastic, and I had a rifle in a caliber I'd been longing for for years!   ;D

Yup, the Handi-Rifle is the best toy they is for hunters, shooters and amateur gunsmiths to come along in a long time!  It can even bring strangers together and turn them into the closest of friends!   :-*

Your right altlaw I should have read this post before asking me question about handis.  I look forward to the fun and excitement that seems inherent in these guns.  And quasne.inc is just some weird alias i came up with years ago.  Not sure how it got started.

Yep I think that is why I keep buying them.  That and some people around here (GBs) are bad influences. But I believe most of what makes us handi nut cases tick is just what you say. ;D

BTW I won't tell anyone you guys play with barbies...Uh er GI Joes. ::)

+1 on the fun to learn on,I used bought a handi in .243 thats kinda beat up, so far I'm catchin on to fittin barrel, next trigger work.  It's addictive to say the least, Got plans for a desent scope then a camo finish. ( spray can of course so I'll have an excuse to redo it ).

Went to the local gun store yesterday, they had a browning single shot (1885 model I think ) it looks great, slick bluing, glossy finish on the wood and $1,200 bucks. that was the buzz killer.        Then ther was a handi in 25-06,$258 bucks,  I'm thinkin pretty hard about buyin the 25-06, really like to try it out.

You tell 'em what fer!

AtlLaw,

You've had that barrel for just about two months now, when you going to get around to telling us how she shoots? Or are you too busy being a big time successful city lawyer to go fling a few downrange? But then again, good things are worth waiting for, as you often remind us younguns. But just keep in mind that your good buddies here on GBO are losing sleep at night in anticipation of your eloquently written range report, chock full of round yellow heads making various expressions. Not meaning to pressure you though!  ;D

I got myself so worked up writing that post I finally shimmed the barrel on my huntin buddies .308.  I can't really tell how good a job I did...  :-\  I had to go through a lot of shim material before I found the right size...  :-[

Yep Dress em up dress em down just like my Barbies oops I mean my GI Joe's

I dunno there Kurt...  :-\  Sumpin jus don't seem right about playing with boy dolls...  :-[
I'll stick with my "anatomically correct" Barbies!   :P

Heck Dave!  I haven't been to the range in months!   :(  But I have loaded up a bunch of ammo for that 25/06 so as soon as I can get some trigger time it'll get shot!   ;D  It's 'spose to be nice all week so I may try to leave early each day!

Heck DP, it's dry as a bone compared to what it has been!    ::)  I tell ya, for days on end the rain was one steady uh, "stream" coming through Atlanta from Alabama.   :(  It was so bad Bill was sending me notes in a bottle and I'd get 'em quicker then an email!   :o

I've got to get to the range to do some final sighting in for deer season!   :-[  That includes my Handi's in 45-120, 38-55, 7x57 and 25-06!  This is really going to be a handi year!   :D  Heck, I may even hunt with the 270 barrel I put on my friend's Ultra!  After I fit it to his frame it shot better then my 270 bolt gun!  I'll refrain from mentioning the make and model of said bolt gun!   ;D

Hate to hear you're sick.   :(  Look in the mirror.  If your nose is getting flat and you have an uncontrolable urge to stick it in the ground you may be getting the swine flu!    :P

I quit lookin' in the mirror, some old fart keeps lookin back at me. ???  Wish he would go somewhere else.  Nose is the same, hurts to much to get my head that low, so must  be something else.  Glad it's drying out for ya.  Still don't know what to take for deer this year, May take one of the 357 Max's for one.  DP

Gotta admit to that also with the addition of my grandaughter and cold beer as major forms of entertainement. Not necessarily in that order
