I've been lurking on the site for several weeks, I'm new to Handi's but have been around guns all my life and have done quite a bit of my own repairs and gunsmithing, been handloading 50 years.

 My handi was purchased used in a .223 Rem with plastic stock, wouldn't shoot for beans. So following the several FAQ's on the site finally payed off today. Just returned from the range with a smile. Discovered that little gun really likes a Win/western case, Win 6 1/2 primer, 23.7 grains of IMR4895 with a 60 gr Sierra set .010 off the lands. Forend free floated from the attachment screw forward, and a .0015 stainless shim at the pivot point.

Four shots in .487, two in the same hole that took a magnifying glass to detect. Not too bad for 69 year old eyes.

I think we need an over 50s newbie old fart section of the forum...just started centerfire and reloading at 54.

Welcome.  I thought most hear were 50+ and the rest were retired SSI age ;D.  I am only semi-retired and it takes nearly all of my spare time to keep up with this site :D

I have not invested in a rest or sandbags yet, the combo sounds like good value and versatile. Thanks Bob.

Take a pair of old Blue Jeans or buy an inexpensive pair and cut the legs out. If there is a hole in the knee, cut above it and below it to make 4 "sleeves". Sew up one end and half sew up the other end, fill with kitty litter, sand or other suitable filler. finish sewing your bags together. Now you have three for under the fore arm and one for under the stock. You can make minor ajustments by squeezing the bags or even major ones by folding over one of the ones in front. there are lots of combinations you can use. This makes cheap shooting bags. I have a set filled with sand for years. I have three left because I was shooting a handgun off of them and shoot through one with muzzle blast. KEEP the MUZZLE AWAY FROM THE BAGS ;D
