Granddaughter's Request
« on: October 23, 2009, 07:05:44 AM »
Ok, I was talking to my Granddaughter Aubrey the other day (she's 18...days old!), and she was telling me how she thought a .357 Maximum Handi would be really neat for hunting. I agree. Grandpa would like to have a .22 Hornet...just because. I would like to have them both on a SB2 frame with the Superlight Compact stocks, but that isn't an option with either caliber. We need a H&R Custom Shop...tell them the caliber(s), contour, stock type and the address of your local FFL Dealer. When it's ready they ship. All we would be doing is cutting out the back and forth associated with sending it back for new barrels, and we would get the stock of our choice.

OSOK, A very plesant thought, we would probably have to buy the company to ever achieve that. So much for day dreams and wishes. eddiegjr

I agree. It sure would be nice, though. It would'nt have to be as involved as everyone else's custom shop, just assembling the requested parts. Barrel fitting for spare's would be the only job requiring skilled workers. I really wish Remington would take more of an intrest in H&R.

Did Aubrey happen to mention .35 Rem?  You know, there is probably enough Handi owners/lovers in here that could buy the company. Imagine the possibilities.
Enjoy your new granddaughter. Sounds like she will make a great hunter.

The custom shop has been seriously considered by H&R marketing, but hasn't flown yet, but there is still interest there, the decline in the economy has a lot to do with it as far as Remington is concerned at this time, but it would be at least a year or two before it might happen. You'll notice that the H&R store isn't even on the website any more, Marlin's accoutrement accessories are back in their store, but the gun parts are still missing.  :-\

Slightly off topic, but I noticed the other day that the Huntsman barrels were'nt currently available as accessories for the Handi's. Any word when they will be available again?
Thanks guy's, I have already noticed that I can't quite seem to spend enough time with her!
Mom and Dad are going to be very supportive in my plans...they're both hunters, as is Grandma. My only problem is Grandma would rather spend money on clothes than the important stuff!

H&R is considering modernizing the Huntsman/Sidekick, possibly even making a complete rifle available, so they aren't making any barrels right now, there's a sticky in the Huntsman/Sidekick forum on it, it's a 2010 project tho.  :-\ If you have any thoughts on it that haven't been mentioned yet or would like to support any of those suggestion that have been made, please post a reply there.  ;)

LMAO! good luck with that wish, as it is, they only occasionally get a single option order correct! And then it is off center or something!

I've only ever dealt with them once...I sent my BC in and had a .204 Ruger barrel fitted. That was summer of 2008. Never did get through to speak with a live person on the phone, so I just bit the bullet and sent my rifle and check. USPS took 3 tries to find the right city, but it got there. 4 weeks to get it back. Turn around was as they said it would be, so I have no complints...but this was pre-Remington.
