I'd gave to guess that the 243 was offered in 1987 as one of the first chamberings available on SB2 frames, Gardner probably had that info, but along with lots of other historic info, was lost in the move. :'(

Thanks Tim, the reason I asked , I have a NC  SB2 and was wondering if the 243 was appropriate.   Doug

Well, we all know they won't fit a 243 barrel to any frame made prior to 1999, but after the discussion with Gordon at Gardner who said they'd replace a 243 barrel that was originally on the rifle, it should be safe enough to use for hunting purposes, I don't think it would be the perfect platform for a lot of shooting tho, but I don't recollect anyone ever reporting a problem with an older frame other than getting high pressure barrels fitted.
