Seems like we have discussed this before, but would a longer .45 case help the accuracy of the 45/410.  Some way to shorten the jump from the short case to the rifling that is stretched out there for the shot shells.

I'll PM you my thoughts, would hate to give someone the idea and have them blow themselves up.  Rog

I believed you were going to ask how many wolf hides he wanted :D ;D  If things don't get better, folks'll be sending them to him from here. :o  Although, I gotta knock on wood, haven't seen one on my place for a while.  I did fail to draw a bear tag, and of course elk either, so my Handis will be after whitetails only this year. :'(  I thought you were off hunting this weekend?

I considered the .45/.410, and with all the problems with it, I opted for a .410 and a .44 mag., complete guns.  Both work well for me, and if I have doubts, or want to travel lighter, I can take the .410 along with slugs.  I almost believe I can match the accuracy of .45s in the .45/.410 with my .410 with slugs and a bead front sight at 50 yards.  I could always put sights on it to improve performance, but I don't really have a need.  Also, I's not a heck of a lot more to take along an extra barrel, considering you've got to remove the choke to shoot .45s....about the same amount of work....a little more weight.

Sourdough, I have a 45/410, i have a chamber cast somewheres here and if I remember correct the chamber diameter is smaller right in front of the end of the 45 colt case,. I am using the magtech 410 brass with .452 bullets. The cases on the .410 brass mest be sized to a minimum to fit the tight chamber. I have about 2 thousanths of free space in the chamber. The bullets I am using are the 300 grain SST muzzle loader bullets and the 300 grain XTP hollow points.

Of coarse I'm not Tim, but I'm also not afraid to offer my 2cents either.  ::) :D

 I think a knowledgeable re-loader with good common sense can do exactly what you propose and gain accuracy. But for the average guy it does open up other potential problems as its completely uncharted territory. The one good is that this is a good strong platform, the 45 Colt starts form such a lo pressure threshold. So IMHO danger from overloads, if common sense is used, remains small.

Looking at the SAAMI MAP for the Colt of 14kpsi and +P Ruger/TC of 25kpsi compared to the 44mag at 36kpsi which is factory available on an SB1 frame, and their similar sized case heads, .457" vs .480", I don't see it to be a problem using +P data in the larger Casull case, it won't be as high pressure in the larger case, but still reduce the freebore some, I think using Colt data in the larger case would be like loading below start data which can be bad too, depending on the powder.

Quick, the problem I am thinking of is that the chamber may be too tight for the longer case, if the mouth of the longer case gets pinched there may be alot higher pressures.

Not likely with an inch of freebore, the bullet will be completely out of the case before it hits the lands!  :D A chamber cast would tell how tight the chamber is and if Casull brass would work.

Rog, I got some 460 brass for just that reason. ;)  In MY barrel, a loaded round falls in and out of the chamber when tipped.  I haven't tried any of the reduced loads in this yet. :-\  I get all these ideas and then they get put away for later.  That was one of the first barrels I had fitted to my very first Handi.  Haven't made a chamber cast yet, note to self, buy cerrocast ::).   I see no reason why it wouldn't be a great fit.  Wouldn't dare put a full pressure 460 in and touch 'er off. :o :o :o  DP
