308 vtr
« on: July 05, 2009, 04:38:31 AM »
my vtr is shooting exceptional with the federal match 168 gr. I took the stock and stiffened it with marine tex and also bedded the action. I took the pressure points off the fore end so the barrel is free floated, a little work but well worth it. anyone know of a load thet would duplacate the federal match ammo.

What kind of groups you getting ?
I have one of these rifles on hold, going to pick it up this week. I am going to do some handloads for it, I will post if I get some good recipes worked up. I will start with the 150 gr. accubond bullet , a favorite of mine in .308's

IMR 4064 - 40 something grains.  I'll need to look my load data up
Berger168gr. target
Fed Target Match 210m primer
Nosler brass

ONE HOLE SHOOTER @ 100 yards (5 shot)!!!!!!

I did the same as you.  Bed the action and removed the pressure points.  LOVE THE GUN.  Killed several deer with this round.

I was a little disappointed when I measured my chamber . Loading bullets just short enough to fit into the magazine , it is a mile of a jump for the bullet to reach the rifleing , no kidding it is about 3/16"
but it seems not to hurt the accuracy . I put 10 rounds thru mine this afternoon and the last 3 you could cover with a quarter at 100 yards. that is while shooting 1 and clean then shoot and clean ( breaking in the barrel ) so I am confident it can group better when I finish the break in.
I was shootin 165 gr. Accubonds out of it with Varget powder and Federal 210M primers, I am uaing the Nosler custom brass as well.
I will post my best loads when I get all that info , all I need now is time to go shoot it, Been working crazy overtime the last 4 weeks , 62 hours a week average, but I aint complaining , I have friends who are out of work so I am grateful.

Hey Man good groups.
I like this gun as well and I think it is going to be a killer tree stand gun.
So far it seems to like the 150 gr. Accubonds better than the 165 gr. Accubonds but I still have not put enough rounds theu it to decide on a load yet.
