What recourse do I have against my auto insurer
« on: August 20, 2009, 10:16:08 AM »
I hit a deer in my Jeep Cherokee. Heavy front end damage broken pulleys broken radiator etc etc etc. I took it to a "State Farm Approved" repair shop and they "repaired" it. All at once the serpentine belt starts squeeling the air quits working the blower motor stops working the fron turn signals have an intermittant short (sometimes they work sometimes they dont)the winsheild washer pump stops working. To top it off the hood has become crooked and will not close all they way.

I took it back to the crook at the body shop-"None of this is related to the accident" (I expected that)

Call the crook at State Farm who takes my money every month"We agree with out State Farm Approved crook not related to the accident." Not even the crooked hood

So all this stuff works before heavy front damage occured and most of this stuff resides in the front end. Now it all quits at once and none of it is related to the crash.

What can I do to make the body shop and Insurance carrier make this right besides taking my insurance business else where? (which I am in the process of doing right now State Farm will not get another penny from me if I have anything to do with it.)

Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

Call the Insurance commiser in your state and register a complaint , It works in Va. very well . In Va. he is with the coperation commision .
Seems their lic. could be revolked for un settled complaints
Good luck !
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Same thing in Oklahoma, all insurance companys must be approver by Ins. comis. problem, call the commis. and file a complaint. That will get their attention and quick.

Next time take it to the dealer never to the place that works with the insurance company.

How about that. They haven't changed at all. I had a deal kind of like that when I was insured by State Farm. I finally got it fixed after a lot of hollering at both the agent and the shop. I changed ins. carriers and told the shop owner he would never see me again. He didn't care.  ;D Down the road several years and a kid ran over my grandson. State Farm was the kid's insurer. They wouldn't pay off. I don't see how they stay in business.

TM-7 , I have used my ( as in I pay taxes that support ) insurance comm. on several occasions and each time it only took a call , never got to the file a complaint stage . In all three the comm ask a few ?'s and said he would make a call , he would forward a package to help make the complaint easy . In less than an hour he called back and informed me i did not need to fill out a complaint and expect a call from the insurance company . The call came and all issues were taken care the way i wanted no ? ask . 2 were issures with personal vehicles and once a company truck.
Guess where you come from the people aren't the Govt. It did not cost me anymore than the taxes already paid .

Correction, state government did something for him and yes the insurance commissioner in our state is very responsive also, but companies will try you hoping you don't go that route

State Farm is by far the worst insurer in existance. Even worse than Allstate. Cancel your State Farm policy now. Your only recourse would be to sue them. They know that almost no one will sue over the relatively small amounts involved in cases like yours. It cost too much for policy holders to sue over the smaller amounts. So, they screw you and thousands of others like you, each and everyday. I could tell you similar State Farm horror stories until sunup tomorrow. GET AWAY from them now!

i have had state farm since 1979,with as many as five autos, boat,rv,motorcycle and home owners all at the same time. my experience has been in central missouri they are the #1 writer in auto and h/o in the state. not always the cheapest but always paid fairly.(i have had two collision losses, deer hit,as well as six hail claims.) i cannot comment for others, but for myself i have no intention of changing companies.

TM-7 , no ,no side step I vote , pay taxes and sit on jurys and consider myself part of the fed , state and local govt's as such . They did what we elected and funded them to do regulate and police big business in our state . You got a problem with that ? There are many abuses for sure but this is one working as it should .
I don't understand the fear you have of govt. , are you hiding something ? or is where you live different ?

well one thing you could try is time travel back to the 50s or so...i seen it on tv but can t develope a formular that takes me back yet... i do know the 21st century is just not for me..
not my world... if i weren t married id be out there beyond this modern ways reach...
then i just settle differences my way..simple as little harm as possible..just the necessary...
watched the movie grand torino,,with eastwood... mabe just people like me but i identified with every aspect of that character...i been sayin id like to go out with glory for the last five yrs..[since my shoulder surgeries]
my wife is so much against it ,,is probably why i didn t do it in my last altercation...
boy deserved it,,but hes young an deseves time to learn better...
if you find that formula for time travel ,,please email it to me.. :) my wifes going whether she likes it or not...she gonna like it,,after we step out for some fun an step back in for some fun...
shes [1st an 2nd wife both the same]just that kinda woman ... i benefitted from having a wife who never looked on it as a duty,, as her mother said it would be.... :Dslim
to HOT TO HANDLE  SON..comes from some rock an roll song of that time...nuff said

Call your insurance adjuster/ and Agent tell them that the company is not acting in Good faith.
that is the call to arms for the insurance company and they will jump through some hoops to make you happy.

I have been insssured with State Farm for near 40 years, my houses; farm, vehicles, boat, and travel trailer are all insured with them.  Over the years we have had several claims but never had a problem with any of them.  I once lived on a heavily traveled road that had a big turn just about in front of my house, while living there I had seven vehicles totaled while parked in front of the house, four in one night.  State Farm always paid, and never gave me an argument.  I had the roof replaced on my house, two weeks later a hail storm damaged it, the claims inspector told me I had at least 10 years life left on the roof, when I told him it was a new 35 year roof they did not hesitate in paying me to totally replace it.

Based on my experience, I would take the above advice and contact the State Board of Insurance, according to my wife, sometime just the threat will prompt them to take another look at your case.
