What do you do with the extra 0.315" of chamber?

Folks: If I have a H&R 357 Mag and rechamber it to 357 Maximum, using store-bought 357 Mag ammo, there will be an extra 0.315" of chamber compared to a 357 Mag chamber.

Do I ignore that fact and use 38 SP and 357 Mag rounds (how is the accuracy), or is it better to just hand load 357 Max cases to 38 SP, 38 SP+, and 357 Mag power levels?

Would hand loading only 357 Max cases avoid the throat erosion from store-bought ammo?

Mix em up, shoot em all.  They all shoot well.  The .38s will probably shoot a little high at closer range.  I wouldn't worry about throat errosion, but I'm not picky.  I guess replacement barrels don't cost a forturne, and if I live longer than they do, I'll just get a new one.  My Handi Max drives tacks with all three loads.

Pete: Thanks for the real world evaluation. I am not looking for ultimate accuracy, so hunting accuracy will do fine. Does 357 Max allow you to take a white-tail at 150 yards with authority, or is 100 yards still the best practice with a 357?

I haven't done it, so I really can't say.  As I just said in an earlier post on another thread here, I'd use my .45-70 over 100 yards, cause I KNOW it will do it.  I'm keeping my pistol calibers to 100 yards or less.  That's largely cause I'm old and lazy, and like to find Bambi laying where I last saw him.  I also see no need to take deer with the lightest load.  I believe in immediate and humane kills.  If I'm not reasonably sure I can do that, I let the hammer down...there'll be another day.

There's already a big jump to the rifling whether you rechamber or not, do a chamber cast and you'll see.  ;) The Max runs just behind the 35 Remington which is considered a 200yd deer round.

Yep what they said. Mine shoots .38s and .357 and .360DWs just as well as the max and yes 200yards is doable. 8)
