Tree rat season
« on: September 19, 2009, 11:11:26 AM »
Does anybody here enjoy slipping into the timber and waiting for those red tailed terrorists to poke their heads out around a limb as much as I do? I have a problem with them in town chewing up anything they can get their teeth on, Bike seats, lawn mower primer bulb, window and door screens. I usually dispatch them in town with my blow-gun. In the timber it's the Marlin 39.
Happy hunting.

red tailed terrorists...

;D "Red Tailed Terrorists" That's a good one right there PslShooter. ;D

I don't have to go too far into the timber to find a tree rat around the old homestead. My biggest problem with shooting the crap out of them is my wife. She thinks they're so cute. ::) She wouldn't think twice about shooting a buck or doe, but I best not shoot any of her prized bushy-tailed tree rats, especially the pure black ones. In this case, I say that what she doesn't know (or catch me at) won't hurt her. ;)

No red squirrels here only gray and an occaional fox squirrel tho I've not see a fox squirrel in several years. I used to hunt squirrels and turkey back in the days before the deer population here rebounded enough to hunt them. I kinda gave it up after I took up deer hunting. I doubt I've been after them in 20 years or more.

Since I can no longer walk long distances or climb those hills like I used to and likely couldn't drag a deer out if I killed one I should get back to squirrel and maybe turkey hunting again.

Well; I don't know how much you enjoy it , but yes I do enjoy a good brisk morning squirrel hunt.   I like getting out before sun-up and getting in position for when they begin to scurry down from their dens heading for the nut trees.   Especially when several are scampering around at once.  A soft crack from a lite .22 load seems to only cause confusion, and for a few moments it can get very exciting.   Boy, I can't hardly wait.......    :D

I had my boy out deer hunting yesterday and shot a bushytail while heading back to the truck!! A .50 cal. is a bit much for them. But it was a head shot. Nothing wasted there.
