The American Civil War - Prof. David Blight Yale

http://academicearth.org/courses/the-civil-war-and-reconstruction-era-1845-1877

by Professor David Blight - Yale University

It covers the era from 1845-1877

I've just started this and have listened to his first Lecture, there is both good and bad but I could say that of any historian. Yet I'm drawn to this course as a moth to the light. Enjoy.

It was a screwed-up automated sensor program. As long as the man's middle initial is left off his name the automated sensor won't kick in. Kinda stupid if you ask me... Somebody needs to fix that thing, or completely remove it.

Ga.windbreak, I'm about 5 lectures into this thing. As you know, it's 25 lectures long (a whole semester at Yale) and it'll take some time. But as of right now, I know of about 125 things this "professor" needs a real history lesson on. It seems he's allowing his personal opinion to influence his "studies" and not the truth of what happened.
But he IS a full blooded Yankee. What can you expect. The poor man actually believes the emancipation proclamation freed 4 million slaves... LOL :D
What an idiot!    ::)
I'll start putting together my "report" on his lectures after I watch a few more of them.

It must be hard to not jump up everytime he says something you KNOW is wrong.

Are you going to post your term paper here too?

You are right about that joe. It's a good thing I wasn't there live and in person because I would've been jumping up so much you would've thought I had tacks in my seat!  ;D

I'm going to wait until I have watched the entire series of lectures to formulate my term paper. I have about 3 pages thus far to counter this man's "vision" of the cause of the war. Some of the titles of his lectures include:

Lecture # 2  Southern Society: Slavery, King Cotton
Lecture # 3  A Southern World View: The Old South and Pro-slavery Ideology
Lecture # 4  A Northern World View: Yankee Society, Antislavery Ideology, the Abolition Movement

As you can see, this man sticks slavery in every time he discusses the Old South while at the same time neglecting to ever mention that slavery existed in the North AT THE SAME TIME!

Every time he mentions the North, it is in the context of that section being the righteous might, regardless of the fact that more than 85% of Northerners felt EXACTLY as Southerners did at the time, in regards to Slave Property.

Stay tuned... I'm gonna blow this guy out of the water. I don't see how he ever got a teaching certificate, especially at Yale!

I hope you will point out that most of the northern slave owners sold their slaves south THEN pushed for abolition when it was obvious that it would happen. And that a lot of the routes of the UGRR ran south to ports in LA, FL, and even SC & GA, and that no matter which direction, there were a lot of good sotherners working it.

Ohhh, don't worry. It is my full intention to show this guy he's totally unqualified to teach anywhere, much less Yale. I found out yesterday that this online lecture series will actually be credited to the medical degree I am pursuing.   ;D

Ain't that a Hoot? I get to tell off a snippity "know-it-all" Yale professor for not really "knowing" anything, and I get to turn in my report and get credit for it toward my degree!  You gotta Love it! I know I do!  ;)

I'll let you know as it progresses.
