Can you ID a RF / CF
« on: July 05, 2009, 12:14:04 PM »
I decided to paint a stock set for my 410/22LR combo and a CF pink for my daughters... well I had a lil too much help and not sure now what action is the RF or the CF... The one i thought was RF is solid steel where the buttstock bolts on to it and the other frame is hollowed out some making me think it is the weaker RF action... any way to make a positive ID??

I about forgot the only other diff i see is the size of the FP and i suspect the smaller FP to be the CF frame???

I read through the FAQs but did not see any info there (Maybe i missed it too)

The hollowed out one is the center fire frame as strange as it sounds.  Larry

Smaller diamiter firing pin on center fire.

The way to tell by the firing pin is the centerfire is a pin like a dot(.) and the RF is a dash like this( l ) Kurt

I think he is talking about a VersaPak frame (.410/.22), an SB1, and a centerfire frame, an SB2. The frame that is solid in the back is the VersaPak frame, an SB1, and will have the solid back section where the wrist of the stock attaches, where the stock bolt threads in. As Larry said, the action with that section "skeletonized" is the centerfire rifle (SB2) frame, the stronger one....<><....:)

As Larry and MSP said, the skeltonized frame is the SB2 rifle frame, it's investment cast alloy steel, the solid frame is cast iron, there's a link to pics of both in the FAQs and Help sticky.  ;)

Thanks for the fast help !!! (And sorry I missed the links in the FAQs)

Here is a pic of the finished riffles... I am not much on painted stocks and not much of a painter but it made for a nice lil project and also made three happy daughters... The older three boys have had there fun with em so I figure I might as well girlize em....

My oldest daughter actually took her first deer with the CF syn stock 243 but decided to hang it up after i made her help with the deer processing... You should have seen the gleam in her eyes when I showed her the finished riffles!! I bet she decides to deer hunt again this year

The CF has a 22 K-Hornet/.223/.243 barrel set (had a couple more i put on another frame now)

Now I need to get working on a pink stock for a chipmunk (for my 6 year old) and they all three will have a pink riffle

I am also a hunter ed inst and figured the class we have coming up soon will be nice to have a pink riffle for the girls who attend....

I have a nice pic with all three girls and these riffles but my wife asked me to stop posting pics of the kids???
