I live in the high hills of West Virginia, way out in the country. So here I am with shovel in hand trying to dig tons of earth out from under my old house to someday have a basement. We are in the week leading up to the 4th of July weekend and some folks here in the valley likes to fire off a few fire works early to get things warmed up. A few neighbors prefer shooting off a few rounds with thier deer rifles to liven things up.
So I put my shovel down and decided now was a good time to fire off my newly loaded test rounds of 500 S&W Mags. I only had loaded 5 rounds. Lee 440 cast WLFN with a bin of 14 with Hornady gas checks over 33, 35, 36, 37, and 38 grains of Win 296, with new Encore, and 20 inch Katahkin barrel. It was eleven in the morning and the birds were chirpping, and a few distant fire works could be heard. Then I started to get a bead with the Williams peep sight at the huge pile of earth I had just created. Bam! 33, easy extraction and the primer was fine. Then I cracked off the 35, 36, 37, then 38 grain pills. Bullit extractions was easy and primers all looked good.
I pulled off my ancient ear protectors and every thing in the valley was dead silent . No birds chirpping and no early fire works.
Have a Happy 4th, Dan
