rem 30 ar caliber
« on: July 20, 2009, 05:07:28 PM »
just read a article in the new outdoor life i think. about the new rem cal for their ar type rifles.the 30ar, excuse me but does it look and sound real close to the 7.62x39?it has bout 300 to 400 fps on the stock round and maybe nothing on a good reload.does it ever end with the reinvention of existing cartridges?

The ballistics shown over a chrony in the shooting times article has the 30RAR pushing the same weight bullet as my top 7.62x39 handloads, The diffrence is the RAR has well over 400fps on my most brass stretchiest 7.62x39 load. Which in my opinion is HUGE. Again both from an AR15. That my friend is more than the difference betwixt 30-06 and 300win mag. Essentally the 30RAR puts 300savage performance in the ar15.

The first round of loads are 125grn bullets just shy of 2800fps, given the pressure rating and case capacity of the RAR I fully expect 2500 to 2600 fps with 150grn bullets to be VERY achievable

The thing with 7.62x39 is Russian ammo is actually quite good and loaded rather hot, For example I cannot match Barnual's velocity with any published handload. But this new cartridge blows all x39 loads out of the water, a Remington 7.62x39UltraMag if you will

well the thing about the RAR is there's a  niche for it to fill if only for a specific albeit very very popular platform. Now you take your logic and apply it to the RSAUM's or 30TC and I'm in complete agreement with ya.
