Good for you! I'm an ex smoker and know what your going through. Try and start an exercise program so you won't start gaining weight. It will make you feel even better. Also, you should now have extra money to spend on ammo!

Congrat's on the 2 weeks, it only gets easier from here on, August will be 2 years for me and I remember gaining my sense of smell back too, also remember my food started tasting better also.  Good luck and keep it up.  Kris

Congratulations.  I crossed the 2 year mark at the end of April, so BTDT.  At two weeks you are past the physical addiction (or so they tell me).  Keep it up, as others have said it gets easier from here.  Still, you'll have those challenging moments and you'll have to overcome them.  Do exercise - I didn't, and gained 30 lbs I'm still trying to get rid of.

Remember how hard it was to quit.
Don't break and think you will just smoke one!
Your not quitting, you have quit!!
The next smoke is you addiction all over again.
Sooooooooo-don't start smoking.

At least that's the mind set I used to quit 6 months ago.

good for you!  Keep up the good work!

I never smoked at all, nothin', never.

One of my soldiers, had been smoking for over 20 years and he kept saying that he was going to quit.  Finally he got orders to Colorado and decided that he had better quit or he'd never be able to run or ruck at higher altitudes.  He got on the gum and even though he doesn't smoke now, he chews the HECK out of that nicotine gum.  About a month after he quit, another soldier came in our office who is a heavier smoker.  My guy almost fell out of his chair and backed off across the room.  After the other guy left, he said "holy #$%^ did I smell like that?"  I told him that some days I didn't even want to be in the same office with him.  He said that smell was reason enough to never smoke again.  I remember that he said that he could taste food again too.  Coughing and hacking was pretty bad for him for about 2-3 months but had calmed down by the time he left for Colorado.

Hope it all goes well for you.  Don't forget to clean your car, your coats, your house (if you smoked indoors) will probably need to be painted.  You'll smell it all and won't like it...

I smoked for about 6 yrs. I was hooked from the 1st cigarette I ever smoked. Haven't had a smoke in 20 yrs. Sometimes I'll have a dream at night that I'm smoking, and I'll get really mad at myself for going back to the silly things. Then I'll wake up and be relieved it wasn't real.
One more testament to the addicting power of tobacco. If I was sure I was about to die , I really would not mind having one more Marlboro before I go.

I thought I was the only one who had the "smoking dream".  Man, sure is weird to have that dream, isn't it?

Did the coffin nail thing myself back in high school and then being in the military didn't help. When I called it quits  I still had those moments for many years after.
