7x64 Brenneke Handi
« on: June 01, 2009, 02:39:14 PM »
While surfing an auction site today I came across Handi- Rifle in 7x64 Brenneke with camo stocks and scope mount, not being
familiar with this caliber I wondered if anybody here could shed some light on it? Serial # starts with NP so its not a newer offering. I
vaguely remember that I heard it could be close to the 280, any comments?             Thanks Fred

A few years ago I was in a gun shop in Ok city, they 3 in stock. I was interested.
I think it is a German Cartiage. Could be wrong. just my 2cents.
Ammo would be hard to find.  Marv.

"In 1917 Brenneke necked down his 8x64mm S design of 1912 to 7 mm calibre and introduced it as 7x64mm and achieved a major commercial success. The 7x64mm offered compared to the 7x57mm about 10 to 12 % extra muzzle velocity. This results in a flatter trajectory and better performance at longer range. In the years between World War I and World War II the 7x64mm was often regarded by German hunters as a “miracle cartridge” and dozens of different factory loads where available on the German market. It was that highly regarded the German Wehrmacht (Army) during the 1930s even considered replacing the 8x57mm IS in favour for the 7x64mm for their snipers."

There's also a 7x65R with a full rim.  That would be a sweet chambering choice.
