muzzle loading handgun barrel
« on: June 09, 2009, 08:53:42 AM »
Did or did not TC make a muzzle loading handgun length barrel? I'd swear I remember seeing them advertized years ago.  If so I'd like to get my hands on one for our muzzleloading season. I'm not a fan of in line muzzle loaders but think I could swallow a handgun version.
Just another worthless opinion!!

I have seen a number of them at gun shows for the Encore in 15 inch and I think there has been one or two on the forum in times past. I could have picked up a 45 cal I think or may have been a 50 with the grip set for 275.00 at a gun show last year. I dont know on the contender but if there was one it would be for the G2.

yes they did make it for the encore in 15 inch . i dont know about the contender . i have one for my encore and it shoots great . i like to use 60 or 65 grains of 777 with a 44 cal. 240 grain JSP . or one 50 grain pellet. shoots a little low with the one pellet. if you can find one for sale grab it you will love it . and if you dont someone here will grab it from you for sure .

TC never produced a muzzle loader for the original Contender, however they did for the Encore AND the G-2.  The barrel for the G-2 is configured so it will not fit a pre G-2 Contender.  I haven't checked the latest catalog to see if they are still available.  I have thoroughly enjoyed shootin' a TC Scout .50 pistol(12" barrel) for years, including taking a couple of decent bucks with it back when it was legal here in VA.

There was at least one aftermarket barrel for the original Contender.  Was it Gonic? That seems familiar.  I don't know how common they were.  I never saw one, but they do show up once in a while on the classifieds, or one of the auction sites.

Keith, You're right it was Gonic.  I looked at a couple but never shot one.  They have been out of business for several years.

you can always have one of the custom barrel makers fix one up for you, watch for some of their barrel sales and you can pick them up fairly reasonable, I had one on order, but canceled it for now, maybe when the econ gets better.

Good luck
