.308 at Dicks had play in barrel
« on: May 28, 2009, 07:55:08 AM »
I went to Dicks last night to check out the new .308 with camo furniture. I was thinking of picking it up but noticed that there was some play in the barrel. When the barrel was closed you could feel it move around when you put upward pressure on the forearm. I looked real close and could see no light between the frame face and the breech end of the barrel but it didn't seem to lock up tight like the other ones I have seen and handled. Is that normal?

No, it's not normal, but it may also not be fully locked up, best way to check is with the forend off after closing the action very firmly, when new they require a bit more force until the latch and shelf get to know each other, if it's still got the looseness, it needs to go back to H&R for repair, usually a new barrel.

I didn't buy the rifle. I just thought that wasn't normal. I shut it hard and it still did it but I didn't check it with the forearm off. Either way, if i decide to get one I will see if they have a different one and tell them they may need to send that one back.
