chamber wall thickness needed.
« on: May 26, 2009, 12:49:31 PM »
working on a 357 insert in a 12 ga barrel. I want to fabricate an ejector that slides in bottom of insert. Does any one know what thickness I need to maintain for chamber and barrel walls? This would be for 357 mag. I would also be interested to know how thick needed for 357 max pressure for a future project.
thanks Don.

Make it up as thick as you can, this is one for a Hornet, it didn't blow up.  Larry

Thanks for the input Larry. I am modeling simular to your project. I just won't have near the fancy milling and lathe equipment to help it to look nice. I figure a ground down grade 5 bolt should be tough enough to handle it. I just was also hoping some of the metal enginers would have a good idea of required thicknes to maintain for these two chamber pressures with a good safety margine. I will have to look up the hornet chamber pressure as well as for the 357's to compare.
Thanks Don.

The problem will be getting the SAAMI MAP for both using the same measurement method, Hornet is CUP, the 357 is PSI.  :-\

If you look at that ejector it is a grade 5 aircraft bolt machined down.  Larry
