Doing a little visiting here in Tx. with my daughter and family. My son-in-law, bless his heart is in the middle east on some kind of oil pumping plant for his job. Quatar? Don't know if I spelled it right. He says its 130 degrees, dry as a bone, and very boring.
He has bought, at my recommendation, a 308 survivor for his first gun, and has waited patiently for me to get here to show him how to set it up and break it in. I went ahead and bedded the fore stock, cleaned the bore and latch, polished the bore, checked the latch fitup, etc. Got the scope lapped in and mounted. I can't bring myself to take it out and shoot it. He should get the first shots from it.
While here, I have arranged a hog hunt on a 500 acre spread not too far away. The man who owns it will give us room and board to kill off some of the pigs. They are ruining his fences, breaking the bottom two strands of wire to get to his feed lots, etc. He said there must be one really big one, that breaks 3 out of 4 strands of wire.
As soon as son in law gets time off, I'm coming back and we'll do this right. He spent 20 years in the Navy, and never fired a small arm. His first and only lesson came several months ago with my 243, and I think he will like his 308, and should like hunting hogs as his first hunting adventure.
