7600 Clip
« on: October 12, 2003, 02:32:05 PM »
Two years ago, I bought a 7600 in .35 Whelen just after hunting season.  I shot it all last year and carried it moose hunting with no problem.

This year, I began to run into cycling problems when I was shooting it off the bags, but nothing when I shot freehand.  The clip seemed to be dropping down from the front - too low to allow the cartridge to feed.

Today, I was doing some final sighting and shooting practice, and the same thing began happening - even when I was shooting off-hand.  It was very troubling, since I'm leaving on friday for my hunt.

When I got home I decided to try some of my 30-06 clips (for the 760) to see if it was a clip problem or a gun problem.  All of my 30-06 clips seat well in the Whelen.  It appears that the lug at the front of the Whelen clip has been both filed and worn down, and the top front edge of the clip is bent slightly inward.

I'm planning to give the 30-06 clips a try.  Does anyone know if its necessary to modify the lips of the 30-06 mags, or will they feed OK with the larger whelen necks and bullets?
Hunting is Exciting!  Bolt actions are BORING!!
Don't mix the two!

A 30 06 clip will be fine for the Whelen.  There are only 2 different styles of clips for the Remington pump.  Short clips with a rear block for 308 based rounds and long clips for 30 06 based rounds.   760, 7600, 76 models all use the the same thing.  I had a similar problem with a clip that was original equipment on a 7600 once.  they are very reasonably priced so if you have a problem just chuck em out and get new ones.
