1100 magnums
« on: May 08, 2009, 06:45:49 PM »
I have seen some 1100 magnums once in a while reasonably priced. Can you put a 2 3/4" barrel with the 2 gas ports on these and shoot lighter loads? I was thinking of picking one up for the right price, some of the used ones I have seen are in beautiful shape and priced quite a bit lower than the standard ones. ???

Not AFAIK.  I believe the Model 1100 feed mechanism for the 3" guns is different than that for the 2 3/4" guns, and the shells will not feed properly, IIRC.

If you were talking about an 11-87, then I believe there would be NP.

I have an e-mail in to remington and will post what they say.I have heard all kinds of things,so I wondered what guys here have done or heard.I even heard someone say if you just used 2 O rings instead of one it would cycle light loads with a magnum barrel, but I don't know.I have a used 1100 trap I use once a week and really like it.I just thought about picking a mag also if the price was right.

I've never tried it so cannot speak from personal experience but my best guess is that yes you can but as I say that is NOT personal experience speaking.

You certainly can put a 2 3/4" non-magnum barrel on a "Magnum" 1100 and expect it to function properly with standard ammo.  All of the internal parts of the 12 ga 1100's are interchangeable regardless of magnum/non-magnum, etc.  The only real difference is the size/qty of the gas orifice holes in the gas cylinder and the location of the ejector on the barrel extension.  So...buy one of those magnums and a new barrel and have fun.

I have three barrels for my 1100M.  I have an old 30" full choke in 3", a 26" IC in 2 3/4", and a 3" Hastings barrel with choke tubes.  All work fine.

The old 30" FC using 3" Federal with 2oz of #6 shot will really reach out and touch a turkey.  Very tight pattern even at 60 yds.
