357 Maximum & Win. 296
« on: May 15, 2009, 12:56:23 AM »
I tried searching here for loads using Hornady 180 XTP's & Winchester 296 but I'm not getting nothing for some reason. I do have starting loads from the Speer manual but I would like to know what you came up with and what primers you used. I'm going to the range next week and I'm getting my stuff in order.

Thanks,
Maine1

I googled ww296 and h110 and found that both powders are the same. They are both made in the same factory in Florida and come out of the same machine. When ww buys it the market it as 296, when Hodgdon buys it they market it as h110. You might want to check it yourself and try h110 data. Also try, handloads.com. and stevespages.com

Hogdgon / Win.  List the same load data for both the H110 and 296 like Hank said ,Same powder ...
  ( EDITED)
I love that powder in my 44 mag loads ... Just got my survivor stock from Kody and cant wait to see if there is any more percieved recoil with out the stock recoil pad ...

For furture reference IMR ,Win. And Hogdgon list their data on their sites        http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

      Hope this helps,

 Data for the 180 gr jacketed bullet is start / 13.0 ( fps 1352)    Max / 13.5 ( fps 1396)

I havent ried the W296 with my rem. 180 gr in the 357 yet... But I love that powder in my 44 mag loads ... Just got my survivor stock from Kody and cant wait to see if there is any more percieved recoil with out the stock recoil pad ...

That would be .357 magnum loads, .357 max loads are more like 20 to 22 grains of H110 at around 1700fps out of a pistol you'll get more like 2000fps or better out of a rifle.  I have better luck with IMR 4227 or AA 1680 out of my Maximums and they seem to prefer 180 gr bullets.  I usally use magnum pistol primers from CCI with H110 or Win 296.

BTW you have to look under pistol loads most of the time to find info on the max, I use the pistol info in my rifles, works good for me. 8)
